Tabletop. Dagestan. Late 19th century
The top side of the table top is covered with iron sheet and inlaid with bone and silver inlays. On the brim there is a sign "From the Kumiks, the Salatovtses, the Aukhovtses and the Nogai. 1888" (peoples of Dagestan). This tabletop was made by the craftsman Khasan-Khadja Magamat-ogli. It was among the gifts that were presented to Alexander III during his traveling in Caucasus. Tables of such a kind, with short legs were widely spread over the mountain dwellers of Dagestan.
